Miner's Hospital Opens
Walter J. Reed donates land and building begins on Miner’s Hospital, a two-story wooden frame facility costing $10,000. Area miners are assessed and people donate generously to help fund the project.

Miner's Hospital Rebuilt
The first two story wooden frame hospital was destroyed by fire in July 1908. The land was donated to the miners and people of Cle Elum by Walter J. Reed. In 1909, a newer, larger brick hospital was rebuilt on the same site by contractors Don Perrow and Orb Barnett. Dr. Stimpson of Roslyn was the chief surgeon who was assisted by Drs. Kiehl and Newgard from Cle Elum and Drs. Phelp and Payne from Roslyn. The nurses quarters were opened in the building in February of 1909. Postcard titled: "Cle Elum Hospital, Cle Elum, Wash."

Hospital District #2 builds a new clinic facility.

Clinic Becomes Private
The clinic goes private and leases building space. HD2 maintains a 24-hour emergency room, Level V, staffed with nurses and on-call clinic MDs. Level V emergency room facilities are usually in rural areas, may not have a physician at all times and are intended to stabilize a patient for transfer.

EMS Levy
Voters approve a six year, 25 cent per $1,000 of assessed property value EMS levy.

Community Push
Community Push for Separately Staffed ED. 2,500 patients seek care at the clinic. Analysis of NW Emergency Physicians by Health Facilities Planning & Management states 3,500 patients are needed to be economically viable in a 24-hour facility.

In January, HD2 hires NEP for a 24-hour Immediate Care Center (ICC), with a $529,000 annual contract

Immediate Care Center closes
The ICC closes in April. Voters approve an additional $0.25 levy for 2002 and 2003, dropping the levy back down to $0.25 for each year after that until 2007.

Overview of EMS Delivery System
Commissioner Benjamin joins the Board. HD2 purchases Pine Street properties and provides a grant for the first community paramedicine training in Upper Kittitas County. HD2 enters into a contract with KVFR for Rich Elliot to serve as Operations Manager.

Permanent EMS levy approved
A permanent EMS levy is approved at $0.25 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. • Geoff Scherer is hired as Operations Manager. • Second 24 hour ambulance in service. •Approved virtual urgent care contract. Urgent Care changes hours to 10am-10pm daily. • Julie Petersen appointed Superintendent.

HD2 contracts with KDA for a Master Site Plan. Fire District 51 declines placing an Urgent Care at Sno Pass due to expense of building modifications. • Hospice Friends rents the PASA house. • The Board approves purchase of a 4WD ambulance. • Talks continue with Swedish for specialty and telemedicine services. • Leadership and EMS staff visit ambulance/fire stations to inform the build design for Station 99. • The Board authorizes refinance of $1.5 M to debt to partially finance the new Ambulance Station. HD2 Commissioners evaluate locating a pharmacy within FMCE, but decide against it.

FMCE (Family Medicine - Cle Elum) suffers significant damage in a flood related to a frozen overhead sprinkler line. • Master Site Plan presented to HD2 Board in October. • Swedish cancels sublease due to a lack of providers. • Fire District 7 & KVFR consider Regional Fire Authority.

COVID Reaches Kittitas County In May
• 47 Degrees North requests information from HD2 for the Supplemental Impact Statement. • Station 99 site work and tree removal begins in July. • TW Clark is awarded the contract for the Ambulance Station; groundbreaking occurs in September but is halted due to permitting delays and weather.

Ambulance Station 99 Completed
• Commissioners approve retention bonus for HD2 staff. • Construction resumes in mid-April; crews move into the completed ambulance station 99 in December.
